Installing Tansu Handles with the 2-Way Nut Tool

Josh Miyakawa |

Choosing the right hardware is part of creating a beautiful piece of furniture. Installing it securely is just as important.

The MORIKUNI Special 2-Way Nut Tool helps with the nut-tightening stage of installing screw-mounted tansu hardware. In our installation video, we demonstrate its use with a Maruza Basic Tansu Handle, showing the process from assembling the handle to fitting the finishing caps.

See the Tool in Action

Our step-by-step video follows the installation on a drawer front with prepared mounting holes. You can see how the parts fit together and where the nut tool comes into use.

The demonstration covers:

  1. Assembling the mounting posts, decorative plates, and handle.

  2. Positioning the assembly through the prepared drawer holes.

  3. Fitting the cap bases and starting the nuts by hand.

  4. Holding the handle in position while tightening the nuts with the Special 2-Way Nut Tool.

  5. Trimming the excess threaded ends and fitting the finishing caps.

  6. Checking that the handle is secure and moves freely.

The tool is used to tighten the mounting nuts; trimming the threaded ends is a separate step using a cutting tool.

A Secure Installation and a Finished Appearance

For the Maruza Basic Handle shown in the video, the mounting nuts secure the handle from the inside of the drawer. Once the nuts are tightened, the protruding threaded ends are trimmed so the finishing caps can be fitted onto their bases.

Together, these steps create a secure attachment and a neat appearance inside the drawer. Seeing the tool in use makes this part of the installation easier to understand before you begin your own project.

Check Your Handle’s Installation Type

The video demonstrates the installation method for Maruza Basic Tansu Handles with threaded mounting posts. Other screw-mounted MORIKUNI handles may have the screws integrated into the handle body and require fewer assembly steps.

Hardware with traditional split fasteners uses a different installation method. Before starting, check the fastener type and instructions for your selected handle.

Prepare for Your Next Furniture Project

Whether you are building a tansu-inspired chest or adding Japanese hardware to a custom cabinet, take a few minutes to watch the demonstration and familiarize yourself with the parts.
